Khojaly: Recognize to Reconcile

Khojaly: Recognize to Reconcile

30 years have passed since armed forces of Armenia brutally exterminated hundreds of civilians in small town called Khojaly. Over the night from February 25 to 26, 1992 armed forces of Armenia committed a genocide against defenseless and helpless civilians in Khojaly. As a result of the attack and capture of the city, 613 people, including 63 children, 106 women, and 70 elderly civilians were killed. Unfortunately, the perpetrators of the Khojaly genocide have not yet been punished. The Republic of Armenia has not yet officially acknowledged its responsibility for this heinous crime of our modern history. The victims of Khojaly are still waiting for the day when justice will prevail.

Today, we call on the Prime Minister of Armenia, the Ombudsman of Armenia and the whole Armenian society to face the dark pages of the past and to put it behind once and for all. Only recognition can lead to the salvation of Armenia from its dark past, the sustainable development of Armenia, the establishment of good neighborly relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the establishment of lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus region in general. We call on the perpetrators of this brutal crime to be brought to justice. We call on the Armenian society not to conceal those perpetrators because they have the same ethnicity as the rest of the society. We call on Armenia to reconcile with Azerbaijan by recognizing the Khojaly massacre.

The Eurasian Regional Center of the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF-ERC) within the framework of “Justice for Khojaly” International Awareness Campaign invites you to support this project.
