“A Glimpse into the Future through the Pain of the #Khojaly” international Zoom conference was co-organized on 25th February 2021 by Eurasian Regional Center of ICYF (ICYF-ERC), Subjective Values Foundation and Budapest Centre for the International Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities.
The conference was held in the framework of the Justice for Khojaly Campaign – an international civil awareness initiative to commemorate the victims of the #KhojalyGenocide on its 29th anniversary.
Following the opening remarks delivered by Mr. Marcell Lorincz, Director of the Subjective Values Foundation, Mr. Elmaddin Mehdiyev, Director General of ICYF-ERC and Mr. Gyorgy Tatar, Chair of the Budapest Centre for International Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities the conference continued its work in two thematic panels.
The first panel entitled “Factual Background behind the Neglected Grief’ and moderated by Ms. Sarah Bowman, an expert from the US was addressed by Prof. Christopher L. Gunn, Professor at the Coastal Carolina University (US), Ms. Narmin Ibrahimova, a survivor of the Khojaly and Mr. Raul Lowery Contreras, political commentator and author of the book “Murder in the Mountains”. The article by Ms. Helen Womack describing the Khojaly and published in “The Independent” in 1992, in the aftermath of the tragedy was read to the conference participants at the author’s request.
The second panel entitled “Recognition as an Important step to Healing” and moderated by Mr. Tyagi Pallava, international film producer hosted Ms. Fahmida Faiza, lawyer and human rights activist, Mr. Marcell Lorincz, Director of Subjective Values Foundation and Ms. Sevinj Iskandarova, Deputy Director General of ICYF-ERC and Justice for Khojaly campaign activist.
The conference ended with demonstration of “Khojaly’s Icon” short documentary prepared by Justice for Khojaly Campaign.
