On July 18, 2022, the Eurasian Regional Center of ICYF (ICYF-ERC), Sabail District Youth and Sports Department, and DİA Political Scientists Club jointly organized the “DIA Model OIC 2022” Simulation Conference on the topic of “Conflicts and peace prospects in the OIC geography”, at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The simulation was officially opened by the Acting Advisor on social issues, organizational affairs, and training of APA Mr. Zaur Mammadov. The speakers of the conference were the Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Sabail region, Ms. Elnara Aliyeva, Deputy Head of the Baku City Youth and Sports Department, Mr. Aydin Yusifov, and Mr. Said Omanov, Project Manager of ICYF-ERC, who welcomed the participants and emphasized that such projects contribute to the country’s human capital, personnel potential, as well as the intensive development of young people.
The conference consisted of 2 sessions and covered particular topics: 1) “Geopolitical instability in the Middle East: challenges and conflict of interests”; 2) “Ensuring regional security in OIC geography: main threats and prospects in the Asian region”. In the discussion of the mentioned topics in moderated and unmoderated debate formats, young people became familiar with the geopolitical changes taking place in the OIC space and gained new information about the OIC institutions.
At the end of the simulation conference, certificates were awarded to all participants and distinguished delegates in the nominations “Best Delegate”, “Best Debater”, “Best Debutant” and “Distinguished Delegate”.
Around 25 participants studying in different universities in Azerbaijan took part in the Simulation Conference. Acting as representatives, young people improved their self-expression, diction, and debate skills and witnessed the working mechanisms of the international relations system in a practical way.
The main goal of the Model OIC project, which is co-organized by ICYF-ERC and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic Azerbaijan, for more than 10 years, is to support the strengthening of international cooperation among young people, and to assist them to acquire new knowledge and experience in the fields of diplomacy, management, communication.
Azerbaijani participants have always represented Azerbaijan honorably at “International Model OIC” conferences attended by delegates from more than 40 OIC member states over the past years.
