On February 12-13, the Eurasian Regional Center of Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF-ERC) in partnership with Debate in Civil Society Public Union has successfully organized “The 1st Debate Championship of ICYF-ERC”, on the topic of “In the revival of Karabakh, local investments should prevail over foreign ones”, at Baku State University.
Among the talented 18 teams participating in this competition, 10 were Azerbaijani and the rest 8 were Russian speaking teams.
In the opening ceremony of the event, the Acting Director of the ICYF-ERC Mr. Vusal Gurbanov and the Chairperson of the Debate in Civil Society Public Union Ms. Ulviyya Akhundova welcoming the participants emphasized the successful cooperation between the organizations towards youth development in leadership and debate.
On the first day of the Championship, three group sessions of 27 debate games were held. Both Azerbaijani and Russian speaking team semifinalists were announced at the end of the day. The next day, the competition continued with the 1/6, ¼ and final games. The two teams from each Azerbaijani and Russian speaking team advanced to the final stage.
Announcement of the winners and awarding ceremony will be held this week. The selected best debaters will have the chance to represent Azerbaijan in the International Debate Championship, which will be held in one of the Central Asian countries.
