The Embassy of Pakistan in Baku organized the Kashmir Solidarity Day event at the Azerbaijan University of Languages (ADU) today, commemorating its unwavering support and solidarity with the people of Kashmir. A photo exhibition depicting the plight of the Kashmiri people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJ&K) was also organized on the sidelines of the event.
The audience were apprised of the profound significance of 5th February for Pakistan as it symbolized the nation’s steadfast commitment to advocating the rights of the Kashmiri people and their struggle for self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions.
The event witnessed a gathering of distinguished guests, including professionals, scholars, media personnel, students, and members of the Azerbaijani civil society, who converged to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir and to reaffirm Pakistan’s principled stance on the Kashmir issue. Rector of the ADU Akad. Kamal Abdullayev in his remarks reiterated strong support by the people of Azerbaijan for the cause of Jammu & Kashmir. He wished for early solution od the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Vusal Gurbanov, Head of Eurasian Regional Center of ICYF also spoke on the occasion and talked about the active role of Azerbaijan in the OIC Contact Group of Jammu and Kashmir.
Ambassador Bilal Hayee, delivered an insightful presentation on historical and legal aspects, emphasizing the importance of international attention towards the plight of Kashmiris, who had endured immense suffering and human rights violations over the decades at the hand of Indian Occupying Forces, which had multiplied manifolds following India’s unilateral actions of 5 August 2019. He thanked the Government of Azerbaijan for its active support on the issue at the OIC and other international fora. Lastly, while reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, he urged the international community to play a proactive role in resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and UN resolutions.
During the event reputed academician, Professor Atamoglan Mammadli also addressed the audience highlighting his recent article that shed light on the historical, political, and humanitarian dimensions of the Kashmir conflict/dispute.
The event was successful in fostering greater awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by the Kashmiri people in their quest for justice and self-determination. The members of the audience reaffirmed their solidarity for the Kashmir cause.
A documentary was also played highlighting the day to day challenges being faced by the people of IIOJ&K.
