Statement of the Board: Black January Tragedy

The Eurasian Regional Center of Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF-ERC) pays tribute to the memory of the Black January martyrs on the 33rd anniversary of the vicious killing of civilians in Baku, Azerbaijan, by the Soviet military troops on January 20, 1990. As a result of this inhumane act against civilians, including women and children, more than 140 people were killed and 744 victims were injured.

ICYF-ERC expresses its deepest condolences and sympathy to the people and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Day of the Nationwide Sorrow. The people of Azerbaijan continue to honor the dear memory of the martyrs by visiting the Alley of Martyrs to pay their tributes by laying flowers, say prayers for the victims, and express their condemnation of the perpetrators of the tragedy. This milestone was a decisive factor in the formation of Azerbaijan’s national identity and marked a turning point in the restoration of national independence.

We strongly condemn this #massacre, and we feel and share the grief of brotherly Azerbaijan deep in our hearts.

May Allah the Almighty bless the souls of all the martyrs!
