The closing ceremony of the Model OIC-2023 program took place in Islamabad on November 26th, 2023, hosting dignitaries from Pakistan and OIC Member States. Notable attendees included H.E Khazar Farhadov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Ambassador Nadeem Riyaz, President of the Institute of Regional Studies, Dr. Zulfikar Ali, Director of Programs and Projects at IOFS, Ferry Murdiansyah and Nugroho Kridasantosa, Members of Political Affairs Staff at the Indonesian Embassy in Pakistan, Tantan Taufik Lubis, Vice-President of ICYF – Asian Region (online), and Dilbar Sadykova, Chairwoman of the Academy of Youth Diplomacy in Kazan (online).
Rutaba Tariq, the Project Country Coordinator, praised participants for their efforts, stressing the need for a unified climate policy within the OIC. The event saw commendations and commitments from distinguished guests like Ferry Murdiansyah, Dilbar Sadykova, Tantan Taufik Lubis, and Dr. Zulfikar Ali, all emphasizing youth’s crucial role in various aspects, from climate policy to sustainable food security.
Ambassador Khazar Farhadov highlighted the need for collaboration and technology exchange to reduce the impact of climate change on OIC member states. He also provided information on Azerbaijan’s active role and contributions as a member of the OIC. This included measures taken to mitigate the negative effects of climate change in Azerbaijan. He highlighted the potential in the field of renewable energy based on the concept of smart and green energy in Azerbaijan, including the territories freed from occupation, and subjected to ecocide.
In conclusion, awards were given to delegates from Qatar and UAE for their outstanding contributions during the simulation. The event concluded with discussions on the Islamabad Declaration, a policy framework to be shared for further action.
It should be noted that Model OIC-2023 program in Pakistan was organized by National Model OIC Pakistan and Eurasian Regional Center of Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF-ERC) in partnership with the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) and the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS).
